Space oddity: Parodius Da! | NES Works Gaiden 77

Youtube Video Description:

By a long-overdue Patreon request (thanks, Joseph Wawzonek!), here's a little side excursion into a game entirely too silly for us straight-laced Americans to be allowed to play. A combination of a shoot-em AND Japanese satire? Talk about box office poison in the U.S.! Or at least, that seems to be Konami's thinking. I dunno. I'd play it. Parodius has the same appeal as Life Force: namely, it's a take on Gradius with a few interesting twists and a more accessible difficulty level than the real thing. Maybe they just didn't bring it here because it's a sequel to Antarctic Adventure and trying to explain the continuity there would be very difficult. I dunno, man. I'm not an executive. I just make the retrospectives here. Please support this documentation project through Patreon (www.patreon.com/gamespite) or by picking up some of the related books (www.limitedrungames.com/collections/books). Or preorder Metroidvania: The First Decade from a fine book chain or comic shop, such as B&N (https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-history-of-metroidvania-jeremy-parish/1148489848?ean=9781506754543). Thanks!
