Kick-axe action: Vigilante & The Legendary Axe | Turbo Works 04
Youtube Video Description:
Two more TurboGrafx-16 launch titles where you walk from left to right and kill dudes. If Genesis was the console about shooting stuff, the Turbo appears to be shaping up to have more of an up-close-and-personal kinda vibe. And some of that violence seems directly targeted at Master System, since both of these games have recent antecedents on Sega's console that don't look or play nearly as well as they do here. Vigilante for TG16 plays like an improved version of, well, Vigilante; The Legendary Axe, on the other hand, smashes and slashes Rastan into the pulp that inspired this genre in the first place. (Heads up, that's a joke about Conan novels.)
Pitting these games against one another—a must, because video game people never seem content to simply let things coexist—The Legendary Axe comes out the clear winner. It's right up there with Alien Crush as "best of the launch" releases... not just for TG16, but compared to anything on Genesis, too. Look, I'm doing it again.
