Sixty-forsaken: The Nintendo 64 | N64 Works 000

Youtube Video Description:

The recent release of the @analogueinc Analogue 3D reminded me that although I have published some N64 retrospectives, I never put together a video about the machine itself. Also, I haven't published anything about the N64 in about five years. So, I decided to remedy that by putting together a piece on Nintendo's third console at long last, as part of a commitment to at least produce SOMETHING N64-related from time to time going forward. This retrospective may not sit well with everyone. The N64 has a lot of loyal fans and was a central part of many people's gaming history. But for me, the console never quite clicked once the initial thrill of those early 3D games faded. In this overview of the system, I look at the factors (both internal and external) that conspired to make the N64 a console that still feels like no other game system, for better and for worse.
