’Glove story: Power Glove / Bad Street Brawler | NES Works 164

Watch on Youtube

Youtube Video Description:

Not every NES peripheral gets its own dedicated episode. Do we really need a full 12-minute exposé on yet another controllable pad with a few extra bells and whistles? Absolutely not. But Power Glove was built different. Literally: it was a wearable control pad, decades before Apple Watch. Suck it, Steve! And its outlandish toy-like qualities turned it into a video gaming icon (thanks in part to prominent placement in one of the most expensive video game commercials ever created). Its outlandish toy-like qualities did NOT make it a good controller, unfortunately, but you have to admire the way Mattel made their one post-Intellivision foray into video games in order to manufacture something that almost, nearly, kinda-sorta could have been a revolutionary piece of tech. Please support this documentation project through Patreon (www.patreon.com/gamespite) or by picking up some of the related books (www.limitedrungames.com/collections/books). AND you can preorder Metroidvania: The First Decade from a fine book chain or comic shop, such as B&N (https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-history-of-metroidvania-jeremy-parish/1148489848). Thanks!
