NES Works Direct Feed B-Roll: Super Mario Bros.
Youtube Video Description:
On the occasion of its 40th anniversary, here's a near-complete playthrough of the original Super Mario Bros. for NES. I say "near" because I just could NOT get past Bowser in 8-4 during this session (in fact, I trimmed an additional 20 minutes of me trying and failing at the end).
This is not a longplay, a let's play, or a super play. There is nothing worth bragging about in this video. Do not expect to be impressed or even tolerant of the gestalt gameplay. This video includes deaths, mistakes, pauses, and other unsightly problems. I used a cheat code to juice extra lives for myself, although I ended up not needing them. I don't have all the secrets and hidden places memorized. I can't never pull off the infinite lives trick with the turtles in World 3. It's fine. I don't need you to tell me how much I suck at this game.
This recording does, however, include footage of all 32 stages—no warps or skips here, so there's material from some of the less commonly seen levels that people usually bypass, like the entirety of Worlds 5 through 7.
I present this as nothing more than raw video that I captured for use in my videos, recording about 10 years ago (whew) for NES Works episode 16. I am making it available here so that others can borrow clips from it when creating their own videos. All I ask is that you politely include a credit or link back in your work if you use this material. Not that I have any way of knowing if you don't, but you'll sleep worse at night.
My setup captures a bit on the dark side, so you'll want to adjust brightness and contrast for your work. Recorded from Analogue Nt Mini and upscaled to 720p via xRGB Framemeister.
